Ragbrai rundown

Ragbrai route in 2008

Ragbrai route in 2008

During the week of July 20-26 I rode across Iowa with about 12,000 of my closest friends (two of whom I’ve known for years – Mike and Phil).

RAGBRAI®, The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. In its 36th year, RAGBRAI is the longest, largest and oldest touring bicycle ride in the world.

We rode 471 miles across Iowa with the equivalent of a traveling county fair. Food vendors serving breakfast burritos, pork, church sponsored meals, and blood marys were available all along the route. We lived in a tent city each day at the end of the ride and paid $5 for a daily shower. I had saddle sores by day 4 and had seen more than enough corn by the end of the week. And being an introvert, I’d had more than enough people time with the traveling carnival. Still it was an adventure and challenge — and an opportunity to experience God’s delight in His creation and in me.

  1. You had the ride, what was the transformation?

  2. Lucky! Cara loves RAGBRAI and I haven’t had the chance to ever do it. I would love to sometime – I already have my costume picked out. Do you know if they will fill your camelbak with bloody marys?
