Agriculture as Theology … part 4

diversityThe Trinity portrays for us deep abiding relationships of separate persons having the same essence. Once again we see diversity and community displayed — God has made Creation reflect this diversity and unity. It seems that these characteristics are required for health of the environment and health of the church.

So maybe the theology of agro-ecology is one that points to:

  • Mystery of both the physical and spiritual realms
  • Life and death leading to transformation
  • Interdependencies of creation – both biological and communal – we are creatures that participate in biological systems and societal interdependencies for health
  • Dependency on the Creator – we are recipients (parallels in biological and spiritual realms)
  • Need for soul care and creation care as a response to mystery

Little do we realize that God is maintaining us in existence with every breath we take. As we take another it means that God is choosing us now and now and now (emphasis mine). We have nothing to attain or even learn. We do, however, need to unlearn some things. – From Everything Belongs– Richard Rohr
